Children & Babies

  • Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of life's most beautiful experiences (and one of its most demanding). When your little one is uncomfortable, restless, or struggling, it can feel overwhelming. That's where osteopathy comes in: a gentle, hands-on therapy that supports your baby's body from the very beginning.

  • Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the body's structure and its ability to heal and regulate itself. For babies, it involves incredibly gentle touch (often no more pressure than the weight of a finger) to identify and ease areas of tension or restriction that may have developed during pregnancy or birth. The birth process, however straightforward, places physical demands on a newborn's body. Osteopathy works to gently unwind any of that tension, helping your baby feel more comfortable and settled in those precious early weeks and months. It's worth saying clearly: most babies are born and thrive without ever needing osteopathic care. Many little ones feed well, sleep (reasonably!) well, and grow comfortably without any intervention at all, and that's wonderful! Osteopathy isn't something every baby needs, and it's never our intention to create worry where there isn't any. Where it can make a real difference is when a parent has a specific concern, ie. trouble with sleep, feeding difficulties, digestive discomfort, or a noticeable preference for turning the head to one side. If something feels off, or you simply want some extra support, that's when osteopathy is worth exploring.

  • Poor Sleep A baby who can't get comfortable will struggle to sleep; and so will you. Osteopathy can help identify and ease physical tensions that may be contributing to restlessness, supporting longer, more settled sleep for the whole family. Latching Issues & Feeding Challenges Successful breastfeeding relies on your baby being able to move their jaw, neck, and tongue freely and comfortably. Tension in these areas can make latching difficult or painful for both mum and baby. Osteopathic treatment can gently release these restrictions, making feeding a more positive experience. Reflux Reflux is incredibly common in newborns and can cause significant discomfort. Osteopathy may help by addressing tension around the diaphragm and digestive structures, supporting more comfortable digestion and reducing the frequency and severity of reflux episodes. Digestive Issues, Gas Pain & Bloating An immature digestive system combined with physical tension can lead to trapped gas, bloating, and general tummy discomfort. Gentle osteopathic techniques can help encourage movement through the digestive tract, bringing relief to your little one. Constipation or Diarrhea Irregularity in bowel habits can be a sign that the body isn't functioning as freely as it could be. Osteopathy supports the nervous system and digestive function, which can help bring greater regularity and comfort. Head Preference to One Side If you notice your baby always turning their head in one direction, or preferring to feed on one side, this can indicate tension or restriction in the neck and upper spine. Left unaddressed, this can sometimes lead to flat spots on the head. Osteopathy can gently ease this, encouraging more balanced movement. Colic Colic is often defined as prolonged, inconsolable crying, can be distressing for the whole family. While colic can have many contributing factors, osteopathy can help address physical discomforts that may be playing a role, offering some much-needed relief.

  • At the heart of osteopathy is a simple philosophy: when the body is free from restriction and tension, it can function at its best. For babies, this means more comfort, better feeding, improved sleep, and a greater sense of ease as they navigate the big world they've just arrived in. Every baby is unique, and osteopathic care is always tailored to your individual child, gently, safely, and with your baby's wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.
